Our California Vacation

I was going to give a full and detailed account of our California vacation, but decided that would take too long. Instead I have written an overview of our vacation in the form of a poem.

Now that I have returned
Form my eventful journey,
I must communicate in verse
What all befell me.

Oh, where to begin!
Oh, where to start!
The muddled facts in my head
I must pull apart.

I sat in our van
Full of anticipation.
I could hardly believe
I had finally reached this occasion.

We were to go to California
For a one week long vacation.
The van was fully packed
For this wonderful occasion.

For hours we drove
Through mountains and land,
Through sand dunes and cactus
All wrought by God’s hand.

On one mighty mountain
The clouds covered the top.
We got to drive right on through them
Without even  a stop!

Finally we reached
Our designated place.
My Uncle and Aunt’s house.
Joy lit up my face.

We had a wonderful dinner
And ice cream for desert.
I then was growing sleepy
And not quite so alert.

We put on our new pajamas
We had so laboriously sewn,
Then climbed into sleeping bags
With a tired little moans.

Part of the next day was spent
At the Birch Aquarium at Scripps.
We saw starfish and anemones
And a fish with big fins and little lips.

That evening we went to dinner
At the restaurant Buca de Beppo.
To see my cousin and her family
Was the reason we did go.

An Automotive Museum
We went to the next day.
Old cars from the 1900’s
All around us lay.

In a wagon like car from 1909
A gentleman allowed us to sit.
We got our photograph taken.
In the car we all just barely fit!

After that we went
To an Imax theater.
There we watched a documentary
With corral reefs as it’s feature.

The next day we visited
A Museum of Creation.
The things we saw and the books we bought,
Filled me with elation.

That evening we went
To stay at a hotel.
It was very cold
And I did not sleep very well.

The next day
Was very windy and cold.
The cold numbed my hands.
The wind blew my skirt into folds.

We spent the day at Sea World
A place of some great fame.
Polar bears, killer whales, starfish and horses,
Are just a few things I will name.

After we left Sea World
We went to the beach.
As the waves crashed my eyes
Were fastened to them like a leach.

We gathered a few shells
Then ran away from the coming tide.
The ocean reaches so far that it seems
The water and sky are side by side.

We went the next day
To Balboa Park,
Which has many museums.
We stayed until near dark.

We went first to a place
The Museum of Man by name.
They had many exhibits there
Some of great fame.

They had an Egyptian Exhibit
Containing pots, idols and mummies.
The workmanship on these articles
Showed the as people intelligent, not dummies.

We went to the Museum of Natural History
There I got to both touch and see,
Fossils, both small and great.
What better evidence for a worldwide flood could there be?

The next day we went to the San Diego Zoo,
Where we saw animals of all shapes and sizes.
Elephants, frogs, lions and monkeys.
When remembering these things, my awe of God rises.

That evening we returned to my Aunt and Uncle’s house.
To sleep there our very last night,
I slept very well, but was so very tired
The next morning weariness I had to fight.

Before we headed home
We paid another visit to the ocean.
We gathered many, many shells
And watched the water that was always in motion.

I looked back at the ocean
As we prepared to leave,
Wishing I could stay,
My breath drew a heave.

As we traveled home we listened
To one of my very favorite audio books,
The Cat of Bubastes by name.
I leaned back and imagined how everything in it looks.

Now we are back.
What a wondrous time we had!
I got to see more of God’s creation,
And spent time with my siblings, Mom and Dad.

The fossils I saw remind me of
The flood and everything that died.
Plants, animals and people,
All dying side by side.

The ocean reminds me of the Ark
Which God had Noah build.
I imagine it floating safely on the water
While all outside were killed.

The killer whale reminds me
Of God great power and might.
The humongous heavy creatures
Can jump high in the air as if in flight.

How wondrous are Thy works oh GOD!
How beautiful the works of Thy hand!
The creatures you made are incredible,
Yet You are more incredible than all in Your lands!

Sounds like you had a great vacation!

Yes, I've used Dr. Jay L. Wile's curriculum (Apologia) ever since I studied General Science when I was about 12 – 13 years old. It's wonderful.

I know what it's like to have several writing projects going on – I hope to write some books someday as well. Are you giving out much insight as to what kind of books you are writing?

    GOD BLESS,

    ~Amanda~

You sure have a way with writing poems! Usually I do not really care for poetry, and poems don't really keep my attention, but yours are interesting and fun to read. How long did it take you to write this one?

Stop by my blog and leave a guess on my "Two Rights and a Wrong" post if you care to.

    Have a great day,

    Alison
