On the Fourteenth Day of December …

– – –

‘Twas the fourteenth day of December
And baking day it was!
Sugar cookies were mixed and cut –
The kitchen was a buzz!

Shapes of many sizes –
Dolphins, horses and trains,
Music notes and wreaths,
Lay on pans in cookie lanes.

The room was hot and stuffy,
From both ovens being on.
It was a pleasure that each baked batch,
Meant more and more dough was gone…

To the KING be all the glory

On the Thirteenth Day of December…

– – –

‘Twas the thirteenth day of December,
And a strange Sunday it was…
Sickness had run rampant in church –
It has a way like that, it does.

The Pastor and his family,
Were absent from the scene,
Few families made it to church
The clouds looked dark and mean.

They let rain loose, from their billows –
Though not very much I confess.
The sisters finished “A Christmas Carol” –
Leaving them Christmas book-less.

With a movie to watch as a family,
They ate candy with red and white stripes.
The evenings ahead would be filled with,
Activities of many types.

To the KING be all the glory!

On the Twelfth Day of December …

– – –

‘Twas the twelfth day of December
And decorated was the tree!
Ornaments of pink and green
Sprinkled for all to see.

Bulbs of gold and silver,
Dangled seeming carelessly,
Scattered scripture verses
And miniatures of nativities.

But high atop the nine foot wonder
Was the CHRISTmas tree crown!
It was cheap, white and plastic –
It was a star of great renown.

The father and the mother,
Had bought it 20 years ago.
It was supposed to be short lived
But the family wouldn’t let it go.

So high atop the tree it stands,
This symbol of frugality –
Or perhaps it symbolizes a little more –
Tradition and sentimentality…

To the KING be all the glory!

Save

On the Eleventh Day of December …

– – –

‘Twas the eleventh day of December,
And there was a great rush,
To finish the sewing –
They had a time crush!

But to finish five skirts,
In just two short days,
Was two much to hope for,
So undone the sewing stays,

Until Monday (hopefully)
Brings sewing day again –
The skirts will just have to
Wait until then …

To the KING be all the glory!
