-In the Presence of Mine Enemies – A Review

This year, I am really trying to get back into reading more. I love to read! Lately, however, I haven’t been taking the time to sit and read actual books.  This year, I have been trying to change that. In January, I began reading In the Presence of Mine Enemies by Gracia Burnham, borrowed from a family friend.

Gracia Burnham is the mother of three, Jeff, Mindy, and Zachary. She resides in Rose Hill, Kansas. You can visit her website here: Martin and Gracia Burnham Foundation.

In the Presence of Mine Enemies was published by Tyndale Publishing in 2002. The book contains 22 chapters in 307 pages.

Martin and Gracia Burnham lived as missionaries in the Philippines with their three children, Jeff, Mindy and Zach. On the night of their 18th wedding anniversary, the couple spent the night alone at a resort, only to find themselves members of a group of hostages of Abu Sayyaf terrorists by morning. Thus began over a year of hunger, running around the jungle, trying to avoid being shot by the military, and missing their children. Through it all, the LORD taught them lessons of faith and trust in Him alone. This book is a true and inspirational account, yet is so very heart wrenching at times. As Mrs. Burnham alternately shares their times of victory and pain, the reader is drawn to see the power of the Almighty in even the darkest situations.

Caution: Descriptions of the actions of the terrorists may not be fit for young readers.

I would recommend this book.

To the KING be all the glory!
