I can not recall if I posted this before – I do not believe I did. I wrote it in July of 2007 summing up the week of the 22-28. The rhythm is a little off at times but I like this poem for it’s content more than for how it is written. I wish I could say that the lessons I learned that week were learned well and I always heeded them – but I can not. Too often I have to relearn the exact same lessons again. Too often I act in a childish and ungodly manner and I must again try to learn how to properly behave. I pray the LORD will continue the good work He began in me and that some day I will truly be able to bring glory and honor to Him in all I do and say.
If I were to add the details of this week
And place on them a sum,
It would say “God’s faithfulness
Has shown bright, even when I was glum”
When the week started I was discontent
Because to church I could not go.
God helped me to see my folly
And I did soon cheerful grow.
Since church we could not attend
We had a service all alone.
Besides reading the Bible we sang songs,
Some new and others before to me known.
The LORD helped me with patience
All the week long.
When life does not go how you want it,
To get impatient is to do wrong.
Then there were my lessons on mercy
That I struggled with all the week.
I have made many mistakes in my lifetime,
I should not criticizing of others speak.
Thursday Mom wanted Cream Cheese Squares made
But I wanted to go and sew.
God helped me to cheerfully obey
And regard my wishes as low.
On Saturday I had a lesson
In cheerful submission to my Father:
I wanted to do one thing
While he said we were to do another.
But truly the LORD helped me
To not only submit
But to do so cheerfully –
Though it was hard I’ll admit.
Kindness and forgiveness are just two more
Subjects I studied this week.
When others annoy you or make you mad,
With gentleness and pardon you must act and speak.
The LORD will help you to obey with cheerfulness,
He will help you always to forgive.
Remember to always ask Him for help
And for His glory and honor – live.
“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:11
“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” Colossians 3:13
To the KING be all the glory!
Amen.
