~New Release – 24 Days Before Christmas!

24 Days Before Christmas - Cover XXVII

It’s here! My Christmas mystery, 24 Days Before Christmas, is published and now available!

December has fallen on the tiny town of Poinsettia and, with it, the Christmas season. The Singh and Winter families are already feeling celebratory, as they begin sharing family traditions and memorizing Christmas carols.

Things take a decidedly unexpected turn, when their neighbor and good friend, Ebenezer Bell, comes home from vacation and can’t find his brother. Blood on the carpet, an absent vehicle, and missing fingerprints start to point the finger at a possible crime.

When James Hoffman moved his sister and daughter to Poinsettia with the bright idea of opening a bookshop, he expected things to be tight, but not this tight. The readers of Poinsettia seem to be few and far between, and James is beginning to second guess his decision. His sister insists on trusting the God that he doesn’t even believe in, but when he discovers an old enemy, bringing his buried anger back to the surface, even his sister’s trust is shaken.

Carols and crime, memories and mystery, doubters and danger – will there be a merry Christmas after all?

It’s been five years, almost to the exact day, since I first wrote the opening lines for 24 Days Before Christmas. Five years. This book has been written, rewritten, torn apart, and added to so many times that, in some ways, it doesn’t even resemble it’s original version. That first line, however? Paragraph really. It no longer opens the book, but it survived all those revisions, ending up, instead, in the middle of my second chapter. It’s still one of my favorite passages from the book.

I did something different with this book. Even though it happens to be my longest novel, there are only 25 chapters. One for each day of the month of December, leading up until Christmas, and then one for December 25th. This book was so fun to write, but difficult as well. It also takes place in a new setting from my other books. 180 miles out from my fictional town of Halcer, is Poinsettia. A fitting place for a Christmas mystery, don’t you think?

~Description – 24 Days Before Christmas

At last. Many thanks from my friend Perry, who so graciously helped me revise and edit my pathetic first attempt, I now have a description for 24 Days Before Christmas.

One of these days, I’ll figure out how to write these things sooner, than a few weeks away from book release.

~Cover Reveal – 24 Days Before Christmas

I love making the covers for my books. I really do. It’s hard work, but the excitement of deciding what I want, doing the photo shoot, putting ideas together, sending off for feedback, and finally deciding on the perfect cover is just so much fun! I love it.

This cover was no exception. While it did have it’s frustrations (and they all do!), those frustrations were worth it in the end. I love the way it turned out and I can hardly wait to see it printed out, in real book form, resting in my hands, LORD willing, later this month!

So, without further adieu…

24 Days Before Christmas - Cover XXVII

Twenty-five days and counting until release day… I’m off to get work done!

~ A Writing Update

– – –

The last time that I posted a writing update, was in early December I think. I posted about working on 24 Days Before Christmas. My goals of finishing around Christmastime, never materialized. Our family ended up being way busier than I expected and I got much less writing time than needed to complete the goal.

January saw almost no writing activity at all. I did, however, find time to finish my short story. It actually stayed a short story too! My first in several years!! I just need to find a title for it. An interesting title.

Now, it’s February. Christmas is over and while I would still like to finish 24 Days Before Christmas sometime this year, for now, my focus has shifted to Grandmother’s Letters again. I’m in the middle of a rewrite, which should be over very soon and then, LORD willing, I’m working to complete a final draft of this book in the next couple of months. It will most likely, be my longest book yet. Sometime, hopefully soon, I’ll try to come up with a summary of the book, so you all have an idea of what it’s about. Hopefully. I’m not very good at summarizing my own writings. I tend to put more information in them than is needed.

So, that’s about it when it comes to the update. Oh! I have started one other story – and I have no clue how long it’s going to be, how exactly it’s going to end or how long it will take me to write it. I can tell you that the name of the main character is Jack or, if you want it a little more formal, District Attorney Jackson Mellows. I still have some major thinking and possibly some research to do, before this story really takes off. I’m looking forward to writing it. Mysteries are always fun and this one is supposed to be a mystery.

I better go get some housework done, so I can spend some time writing a little later… How is your writing going?
